U. S. State Flowers in Counted Cross-Stitch by Gerda Bengtsson

Presented here in full color are complete designs for working the flowers of each State of the Union: 41 designs (some states have the same flowers) in all. Though of Danish origin, cross-stitch embroidery has become a beloved part of our American heritage. It is particularly fitting, therefore, that the State flowers have been rendered in exquisite cross-stitch by Gerda Bengtsson, chief designer of the Danish Handcraft Guild. The work of collecting, studying and painting the flowers -for Gerda Bengtsson will only work from the living plant, observing the flower in all its stages of growth - and transferring their images to the drawing board and finally recreating them into the delicate needlework too three years. The name of each of the fifty states and the District of Columbia are also included.
