This book examines the relationship between local sampler designs and the embroidery traditions of various groups who immigrated to South Carolina, among them English, French Huguenot, Dutch and German settlers. Personal information on many of the sampler makers is included as well as an in-depth discussion of teachers active in the Charleston area in the eighteenth century.
