The Flowering of American Folk Art (1776 ~ 1876) by Jean Lipman & Alice Winchester

The publication of this book was the occasion for a major traveling exhibition based on its content. The exhibition was shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco: M. H. de Young Memorial Museum and was sponsored by Phillip Morris Incorporated. The exhibit and catalog showcase pictures (painted, drawn and stitched), sculpture in wood, metal, stone and bone, decoration for home and highway and furnishings. A wonderful look at a tremendous collection of folk art!
