Embroidered Samplers in the Collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum by Gillian Moss

This wonderful book is a look at some of the Cooper-Hewitt's delightful collection of nearly one thousand samplers. This collection of samplers stems mainly from the generosity of two donors, one being Mrs. Henry E. Coe (Eva Johnston), who wrote the book American Samplers with Ethel Stanwood Bolton in 1921. Included are a basic history of samplers as well as discussion on samplers from the following regions: The Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, France, Spain, Mexico, Great Britain and the United States. This book also contains an excellent bibliography.
