The Craft of Black Work and White Work by Erica Wilson

This "how-to" book contains the basics and instructions for working two distinctly different forms of embroidery: blackwork and whitework. The blackwork section of the book begins with an historical introduction to the embroidery followed by instruction on beginning, choosing fabrics, threads and needles, beginning the design, applying the design, choosing a frame, stretching and blocking and the stitches. The whitework section of the book covers the same categories of information and is further divided into two types of work: coarse and fine.
