Common Thread/Common Ground: A Collection of Essays on Early Samplers and Historic Needlework edited by Marsha Van Valin

This book and the information held therein grew from a needlework symposium held in 1999 at the headquarters of The Scarlet Letter. It contains nine different essays as well as several poems written on the subject of needlework. Included are three essays by Carol Humphrey (The Story of a Collection; Schools and Stitches; The Art of Repetition), an essay by Kathleen Staples (Pleasant Places), one by Carol Huber (Architectural Structures in American Schoolgirl Needlework), one by Marsha Van Valin (Epistolary Needlework), one by Margriet Hogue (Early Samplers of the Netherlands), one by Frances Faile (Hanging By A Thread) and, finally, one by Tom McBride (When Pens Were Needles). This is a wonderful collection of information and a must have for every sampler lovers and collectors library!
