Embroidering white linen with colored threads is an art that has been known since the fourteenth century. This book offers many beautiful letters from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries suitable for both counted and free style embroideries. Letters from the book are embroidered using cross stitch, four-sided stitch, double running or Holbein stitch, star eyelet stitch, satin stitch, stem stitch, feather stitch, chain stitch and wave stitch. Each of these stitches are fully explained and illustrated. Included are charts/patterns for 67 different alphabets as well as numbers and motif patterns.
