American Quilts: A Sampler of Quilts and Their Stories by Jennifer Regan
Every quilt has a story to tell. Each early American quilt, pieced from scraps of worn clothing or leftover fabric, speaks silently but eloquently of the virtues that built America - diligence, thrift, perseverance, devotion to family - virtues women grew in the rocky soil of New England and the wind-swept prairies of the frontier. In this book, the author provides insights into and an appreciation for the quilt-making process. She discusses it in relation to quilts of the past as a process that can satisfy and soothe. Whether solitary or a shared project, quilt making becomes a repository for shared causes as well as private dreams.
